Matthew - the man I plan to marry someday, my best friend and my rock! He picks up the pieces when I start to crumble.
My beautiful boy, Lucas - the one I could not never, ever live without! The little person who came along almost 2 years ago and stole my heart. He has made each one of those days so special.
My growing bump - this little person is going to be a very special one! Whenever I feel alone I just have to look down to be reminded that I have had someone with me every day for the last 24 weeks.
And then there is me. I am many things; a woman, a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a best friend, a student, but my most important title is MUMMY!
I have a habit of starting these things and after a month or two, completely forgetting about them. I LOVE writing but it seems the only thing that motivates me to keep writing are my two wonderful babies, so here is my attempt at "blogging".
I first became a Mum in 2010, sixteen days before my 22nd birthday. My baby boy, Lucas made his entrance into the world four weeks early after a very complicated pregnancy, but weighed in at a healthy 6lb 13oz. Everything I imagined motherhood to be was nothing compared to what it actually was. Its the most terrifying thing in the world when you have someone else relying on you, but it is the most rewarding and fulfilling feeling ever. Some days are harder than others, but at the end of the day when they are finally asleep you miss them more than ever!
Lucas is now 23 months old and I couldn't be prouder!! For the last 7 months I have had help in raising him from my wonderful man, Matthew. I have noticed a change in Lucas and I think that has a lot to do with having a positive male role model in his life. Lucas have given up the dummy of a day and only uses it for sleep time, which has resulted in his speech improving. His vocabulary has gone from the basic "Mum" and "shoes" that it was 7 months ago and I now have a little boy who will not stop talking! He knows what sounds animals make and can name some of our family members by looking at photos. We have gone from having him sleep in his cot next to the bed, to in the cot in our room, to finally moving him into his very own big boy room! He is getting a car bed from his Nanny for Christmas which he will be moving into at the start of the new year. He is learning to swim, Matthew and I take him to the pool when we can and he has no fear of putting his face into the water and blowing bubbles. The huge milestone I must brag about is his toilet training. He has blown me away!
At 16 months of age I bought Lucas a potty, simply to get him sitting on it and getting used to the idea of using it. The first day I sat him on it, he done a wee! He continued to do a wee in it every morning, and I think we got up to about 20 wee's in a month. Lucas started to get upset with being put on the potty and I didn't want to pressure him and having it backfire, so we gave it a break. After a 6 month break, his wonderful daycarer mentioned to me that he wanted to sit on the toilet while in her care, so Matthew and I went to Kmart that same night and bought him the ladder with the seat attached to it so he could start using the toilet the same as us. We started off with sitting on the toilet every hour, but wasn't having much luck. After finally getting our first wee in the big toilet, Lucas was absolutely amazed with himself and continued to wee in the toilet. He has even been telling us "wee wees" but sometimes its after he has done it. On the 19th of December he finally used the toilet to do a number two, after weeks and weeks of going to hide and do them in his pull-up nappy. I really am the proudest mummy on the planet and who wouldn't be with a boy like this?!
Lucas has been keeping me busy which has made this pregnancy FLY! We are currently 24 weeks and I am trying to savor every moment as this is going to be my last child. My body doesn't cope with pregnancy well and this has not been an easy ride, but it is worth every second of the pain and discomfort. We are so excited to meet this little person and welcome them into our family - it will finally be complete! I am finally feeling lots of kicks and movement and have managed to catch a few of them on video. This tiny person knows their Daddy's voice too!! As soon as baby hears him talking he/she starts kicking away, it really is the greatest thing ever!
We have lots of hospital appointments coming up! We have another scan in 4 weeks time to check on baby's growth as my chronic kidney disease may be affecting him/her (fingers crossed its not!), a repeat Glucose Tolerance Test to check for Gestational Diabetes and visits with the Obstetrician and kidney specialist. My kidneys have been taking more of a beating than usual with hydronephrosis forming in both so I'm really looking forward to seeing the kidney specialist. I have developed asthma in the last couple of weeks and am now on ventolin to help with that. I'm hoping my body will hold out until our baby can be delivered safely but there is really no telling what will happen.
I have been monitoring my weight from the start of this pregnancy and measuring the size of my tummy religiously every week, just as I did with Lucas. I was so laid back when it came to weight gain when pregnant with him, and this time I feel like bursting into tears every time the number rises on the scales. It has mostly been over the last 2 weeks as my weight gain was in an ideal range before then. This week I am weighing in at 69kgs and have a tummy measurement of 109cms. My tummy is measuring 3 weeks ahead of when I was pregnant with Lucas so it will be interesting to see how much further it will go when we reach the 30+ weeks mark. Our baby is giving me some nice strong kicks as I type this, oh how I will miss this feeling when he/she is finally here!
This week motherhood is..... still as rewarding as ever x
