The year is coming to an end and I felt like I should make an attempt at doing some reflective writing since 2011 has been a massive year for us. I can't believe how much has happened over the last 12 months and how much our lives have changed for the better. We have watched people walk out of our lives and new ones walk in and steal our hearts. I have watched my baby reach milestones and grow into a handsome little boy. I started the year with a broken heart and am finishing it up with one that is repaired and full to the brim! I made decisions and mistakes, but that only makes me human. I have been the best mother I know how to be.
Here is a re-cap of our busy year!
January - We celebrated Lucas' very first birthday. We sang "happy birthday" to him for the first time and his face was absolutely priceless! He wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry, so he sat there until the final hooray then attacked his Brobee cake!
Februrary - My best memory from this month was my trip to Melbourne to see Michael Buble in concert! I went with Jaimie (my sister and best friend who I'm sure you will hear much more about in blogs to come) and we had an absolute blast! There is nothing I would change about that trip, it was one of the best times ever.
March - Lucas reached a huge milestone when he finally began walking! I managed to get his first few steps on video so when he is older I can show him the comparison of how similar his intoxicated walk is (its a scary thought to think that my baby will one day grow up, but unfortunately its going to happen whether I want it to or not). I was beginning to get worried about his development as he had started off talking really well and regressed by this stage. I dreaded taking him to see the health nurse because each time I did they would point out something that he wasn't achieving yet.
April - We went away to the shack for Easter. Lucas really loves it there! Its a beautiful spot and away from all the hustle and bustle so we both really enjoyed it.
May - I met a gorgeous man who treated me like a princess and was so good with Lucas. He made my heart melt and completely swept me off of my feet from day one! Who would've thought that 8 months into the future we would be in love and expecting a baby?!? I had never wanted to get married until I met Matthew. He opened my eyes to what love really means and I can not wait for the day that I will be known as his wife.
June - I was accepted into university and completed the University Preparation Program. I had applied a few month beforehand because I felt that it was time to start building a proper life for Lucas and I. Going to university meant that Lucas had to go to daycare, but I made sure I found the very best woman to look after my precious boy. She is more than just a daycarer, she is a true friend. You know who you are! You hold a very special place in Lucas' heart.
July - I started the Associate Degree in General Studies which meant having 3 different units, tutorial readings, allocating study time and attending lectures and tutorials. It was hard trying to juggle all of the demands of university with raising an 18 month old toddler, but I kept reminding myself WHY I was there and I really gave it my all. I sat exams later in the year and received my results last month. I got a Distinction and 2 Credits which I am quite proud of!
August - We found out that our family was going to be growing and we could not have been more excited. I had a tiny bit of doubt about how Lucas would react to having to share his Mummy, but that fear has vanished.
September - A pretty ordinary month involving attending uni lectures and tutorials, studying, raising Lucas and fighting off morning sickness!
October - We started taking Lucas to our local indoor pool to get him used to the water and start the learn-to-swim process. It was Lucas' favourite time of the week and I was really enjoying it as well because my rapidly growing bump didn't weigh so much in the water. We started off slow with sitting on the step becoming familiar with the water and in no time at all, Lucas was wanting to splash around in the water. He even puts his face in the water and blows bubbles!
November - This was a confusing month for being told the sex of our baby. We were told girl, boy and then girl again. Either way, we will be happy!
This month has seen us celebrating our first Christmas together, hospital trips, a growing and very active belly, Lucas amazing us with all that he is achieving and preparing for the arrival of our new family member! I started a bucket list a few months ago and have completed one goal in that time, so 2012 is looking positive for more to be achieved!
Happy New Year to all of my friends and family, stay safe x
