Look what I learnt how to do.....

So I wasn't really sure if I was going to write my blog on my new hobbie or the lack of originality of people. I don't really want to rant again, but I will say that we should take pride in being original! Its what gives something a bit of individuality and there is nothing worse than seeing something of yours copied!

Anyway, at the beginning of the month I started looking for photography props for our little man's first photoshoot. I worked out that it was going to cost me over $150 for everything that I wanted. I thought to myself "how hard could it possibly be to make these?", so a week and a half ago I decided I was going to learn how to crochet. I got a book, crochet hook and yarn and started reading, little did I realise that the book was made for LEFT hand crocheters!!! Damn pregnancy brain! It made it really difficult to learn and I was just about ready to chuck it in on the first day.

I ended up YouTubing videos in hope that I would soon be crocheting. I'm definitely more of a visual learner. I picked it up in no time and started making beanies as a start. In the short week and a half I've completed 3 beanies (the first 2 were beginning projects so one is too tiny and the other is way too big!), a baby hammock, hanging cocoon and nest and I've halved the cost of what it would have been had I purchased them instead!

A few people have asked me if I will be turning my crocheting into a business. Unfortunately, I don't think so. I started doing photography simply for the love of it and a lot of people were encouraging me to start it up as a business. I am very thankful for having such supportive people in my life! I really loved taking photos for people and seeing how happy they were with the finished product. I didn't have a bad review until the very end when I was contemplating closing Illumo Photography down due to Uni commitments anyway. This only made the decision to quit that little bit easier. Sometimes the pressure got to me and I ended up being a very stressed lady, but for the most part I had a lot of fun with my customers! Towards the end I was beginning to feel like photography was just a job and the pressure was taking the love of it away.

I still have a few crocheting projects to complete but I probably won't stop there. It seems as though I may be addicted to it! Our little man is going to look soooooo incredibly cute in his newborn photography shoot with these props!
