Goodbye baby, hello big boy!

This morning Daddy asked Lucas if he is still a baby. He shook his head and replied with a very stern "no" so I guess its official. I am now the proud mum of a BIG two year old boy! He insisted on sleeping in his big boy bed (he calls it "Bob-Bob" because his bedding is Spongebob!) the night before his birthday and has just spent his second successful night there! Talk about superstar!! The way he adjusts to new situations is simply amazing to me.

Lucas' memory of people, places and things is continuing to expand, along with his vocabulary. He is beginning to put more sentences together and often chatters away telling us a big story. Half the time we can't make out all of the words, but they are great stories all the same. At the moment I am working with him on identifying the difference between a girl and a boy and attempting to teach him colours. I doubt it will take Lucas long before he has them down-pat.

I tried to make his day as fun as I could yesterday. Lucas' godmother (Jaimie) came over and helped me build a big cubby out of chairs and sheets. We filled it with balloons. Lucas wanted bubbles too so that is exactly what he got. We done colouring in, had an afternoon nap, ate cake (Mummy attempted to make a number 2 cake) and continued playing right up until bed time. After a bed time story and getting tucked into his big boy bed, Lucas' big day finally ended. Next weekend is his birthday party, fingers crossed for good weather!

Today marks 28 weeks gestation and the start of the third trimester! We are finally on the home straight!! If my body holds out we are looking at a possible 9 weeks until we meet our baby and I am starting to get VERY excited! I am so eager to find out for certain if we have another gorgeous little man or a beautiful princess, what he/she is going to look like and to see Lucas' and Matthew's reaction to finally having our new addition on the outside with us! I know our precious bundle has Daddy's lips!

My visit with the kidney specialist on Wednesday went well. He gave me the information I needed as well as his medical opinion as to what should happen next. It looks as though this pregnancy is heading in the same direction as it did with Lucas, just more rapidly which is a scary thought. I am putting up with the kidney pain for the time being and waiting for as long as I can before getting medical intervention as it triggered my early labour with Lucas at 32 weeks. We have our growth scan on Monday to check on baby's measurements. We are now on fortnightly antenatal appointments and have another on Friday.

I'm still getting Braxton Hicks contractions, but I'm not too bothered by them. My body is getting ready for the job it will have to do soon and if it makes labour any easier, I welcome it! I can't remember the last time my pubic bone wasn't aching. I have done some reading about it and it all seems very normal, which is a good sign! My tummy measurement and weight remain the same as last week - hooray!!!

This week motherhood has been..... a little upsetting to see my baby growing up into little boy, but exciting all the same! I'm looking forward to all the things he is yet to learn and achieve! x
